Who can enter?
Anyone. The D&AD Awards is an international awards scheme, with entries from 64 nations last year. You do not need to be a member of D&AD to enter.
What work is accepted?
To be eligible, work must have been commercially released between 1 January and 31 December 2009. Work must not have been entered in previous years. For full details on our entry criteria for the Awards please read the entry and competition rules.
Can two companies enter the same work?
Two different entrants cannot enter the same work in the same category. If you have collaborated on a piece of work with another company or individual check if they plan to enter before making your entry. In case of duplicate entries, only the first entry to be paid for and received will be accepted.
Can I enter work if I am the client?
Clients can enter work produced for them internally or by an external agency (as long as it has not been entered by the external agency in the same category, see previous question).
Can I enter self-promotional work?
Self-promotional work (e.g. corporate identity for your own company) is eligible only if it was released commercially and distributed/made available to potential customers. This excludes reels and portfolios.
Can I enter work done for free for a charity?
Work done by an agency pro-bono for a charity can be entered if it meets the following conditions:
a. The charity must have a contractual relationship with the entrant agency.
b. The work must have been approved to run by the commissioning charity.
c. If the media/airtime was provided pro-bono, we reserve the right to ask for confirmation from the media owner.
How much does it cost to enter?
Use the Category & Price Finder to access the list of categories and prices.
Where does the money I spend on my entries go?
D&AD is a not-for-profit organisation, entry fees contribute to funding global education programmes.
What categories can I enter?
Use the Category & Price Finder to access the list of categories and prices.
How many categories can I enter?
You can enter the same work into as many categories as you choose, both as a single entry and as part of a campaign. The entry fee will be charged for every category.
Do I need to provide the original artwork for Book and Magazine & Newspaper Design categories?
No, our guidelines currently request that you 'Post the original work unmounted', by which we mean a copy of the book or magazine and not the original artwork.
Who will be judging my work?
Visit Juries to see who will be judging this year's entries.
What methods of payment are accepted?
You can pay by credit card or bank transfer. Cheques are not accepted. If paying by bank transfer the total amount has to be transferred within seven days of completing your entry online.
Where can I find D&AD's bank details?
Once you have chosen the bank transfer option, you will be able to print out D&AD's bank details from a PDF.
Will I receive a receipt?
Once you have completed your payment, you will be able to download an invoice from your account.
How do I prepare and submit my entries?
Full instructions on what to submit for each category are available in the Preparing Your Entries PDF.
What should my Presentation Film include?
Judges often find that presentation films don’t successfully communicate the entry.
To give your work the best possible chance at judging, follow the recommendations below:
Judges Tips: Use the first 30 seconds to clearly and concisely summarise the entire entry, show the brief (outlining the aims and objectives of the project), the solution and the context in which it was experienced by the user/consumer. Elaborate, if necessary, within the remaining time. Emphasise the creative idea, and its relevance to the audience, rather than its effectiveness. After all, D&AD is a creative award scheme.
D&AD Advice and Criteria: Do not use your company logo or branding anywhere on the film. Do not wait until the end of the film to reveal the project solution. Show the elements of the project as they were originally presented, e.g. include any audio that formed part of the work.
It is not necessary to show ‘the making of’ unless it is integral to the entry. Keep the film to the specified length or shorter. You do not have to fill the time allocated. You do not need to create an elaborate, costly film. As long as the idea is presented well, simple films can be just as effective.

What credits do I need to supply?
Basic credits such as the title of your work, brand and client are required for entry. You do not have to supply credits for individuals at this stage. This will only be requested if your work is successful.
What information about my entries do I have to submit?
Use the Preparing Your Entries PDF to find out the information required for each category. You will submit this information when making your entries online.
Do I need to supply translations?
You will need to supply a translation if your work was not originally released in English. Refer to the Preparing Your Entries PDF for guidelines on how to supply translations. Please do not supply your translation in a format other than that listed. Our official creative translation partner is Mother Tongue. For more information on their services visit: http://www.mothertongue.com
How do I send work from outside the UK?
Mark all international packages as 'Competition Material - No Commercial Value'.
If you need to indicate the value of the goods you are shipping, use a token value, for example £1 per entry.
Ensure all shipping costs and customs fees are paid before sending your package. This will avoid entries being held up in customs or refused at our offices because of extra shipping costs.
How will I know if my package has arrived?
You will not be notified when we receive your package. We will contact you if we do not receive the corresponding package to your online entries.
When will I know if my work is successful?
As results are confirmed they will be announced at http://dandad.org/awards. An official confirmation of these results will also be sent to the person who registered as the main contact for the entry during the week beginning 26 April 2010.
What happens if my work is successful?
Successful work will be published in the D&AD Annual, both in print and online. It will also be showcased at the Awards Ceremony & Dinner and promoted at D&AD exhibitions and events worldwide. Successful entrants will be able to reference any D&AD Award status accorded to them for promotional purposes. For further details please visit Winners Resources
