Description

In summer 2008, an old 60s 35-tonne commuter train carriage was converted into London’s most unusual café and installed in a derelict railway site in Deptford High Street, South London. Morag Myerscough was responsible for the creative concept and realisation of the train carriage, graphics, interior, furniture and external platform garden. The carriage's hand-decorated exterior depicts playful images and words inspired by local history, trains and tea – denoting the ship building industry, marine rope-making and the livestock originally transported to Smithfield on the railway. The interior has bespoke furniture made from recycled laboratory tops plus hand-painted stools with sitting-related slogans. The loo, set in a garden shed is a shrine to Elvis and the work of artist Luke Morgan.
